Rutan Mechanical helps our customers keep cooling costs down by upgrading older units with more energy efficient SC systems. Older units are extreme energy hogs. Fortunately, times have changed and you can enjoy substantial energy savings by installing and using today's more technologically advanced energy efficient cooling systems. The efficiency rating of your AC system is referred to as its "SEER Rating." SEER stands for "Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio", which is the ratio of the amount of cooling produced (BTU) divided by the amount of electricity used. The higher the SEER rating, the better the units efficiency at cooling.

Why Upgrade?

Older air conditioning systems have a SEER rating of 10 or under. Today's energy efficient units can have SEER ratings as high as 23! Systems manufactured after 2005 are required to have a SEER rating of at least 13, though window units are exempt from this law and those units are typically around 10. Units SEER ratings are usually shown on a yellow & black EnergyGuide sticker on the outside of the AC unit.

How High a SEER Do You Need?

AC systems that are in the top 25 percent of energy efficient models may display the EnergyStar label. To qualify and display this label they must have a minimum SEER efficiency level of 14.

This does not mean that you need to go buy the AC system with the highest SEER rating possible. SEER ratings represent the potential energy efficiency under perfect conditions.
